HDD Door

This door isn’t mysterious at all. But it’s historical, because its upper bluish gray part is an aluminium wall from the huge HDD, produced, maybe, in 1977 in USSR.
There is a plate (I’ve increased the sharpness of it slightly) in the upper right corner, saying "ЕС 5067" (ES 5067). This model of HDD was built for computers like ЕС-1035, something close to IBM System/370.

ЕС 5067 had a size of laundry machine, was standing separately on the floor and its capacity was 100 or 200 Megabytes. Can’t say, which IBM disk storage was its "twin", but it was something like IBM 3330. Just for information: "EC" abbreviation had a meaning "Unified System".

When all that monsters was retired, people, who worked with it, got some profit from it, taking metal walls, wires, disks and making something at home. This wall was used to repair a door of storage shed at my friend’s summerhouse.
Other people are still using TV antennas, made from aluminium disks from that HDDs – it was big enough (diameter – 40 cm) to make simple UHF wide band dipole antenna.
But the most original use of parts of that HDDs was keeping bread in round plexiglass boxes for replacement disk packets. IBM storage systems had the same packets, so it’s possible to figure out, how it was looking, note that round boxes at the right.

Aluminium gate over doors to the Federal Trade Commission, formerly the Apex Building (1937-38, Bennett, Parsons and Frost) with transportation themes. The sculptural reliefs are by William McVey. This is my favorite one, a 1930s ocean liner.
