Some cool Aluminium Shutters images:
Semflex: keep it simple!

A recent find. Simple TLR built sometime between 1950 and 1958 that has almost everything right. First and foremost: a Tessar type, four elements Angenieux type X1 lens to take the pictures and a f/2.8 triplet to focus. Next, an Orec shutter that goes to 1/400; on this copy, the slower speeds (from 1/10 to 1 sec) do not work but I don’t really need them. Aluminium body, both rigid and relatively light.
What I would like to have is a self timer – will need to find a mechanical one coupled with a cable release.
My sample has no serial number so it might be a quite early model. Had to clean lenses, mirror and ground glass but really appreciated the solid, robust construction and the simplicity of it all. I don’t think I’ll touch the shutter even if I would love to have it working completely right.

Honey bee on white flowers (the bee is that brown blob near the bottom, just left of center).
These were shot with a Canon 40D using aluminium foil over the lens mount. I poked a hole with a pin near what I hoped might be the center and started shooting. I cranked the ISO up to about 1200 and was able to use shutter speeds around 1/6 of sec.
